REVIEW: Ireland Returns to the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival 2021

August 27, 2021 by admin

Ireland has been a featured location of the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival since 2001. And after taking a break last year (with an appearance by the Seafood Fisherman’s Pie at Wine & Dine Studio Featuring Festival Favorites), they’re back for 2021. They were scheduled to open on October 1, but debuted early. The 2021 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival runs from July 15 – November 20, 2021.

Fisherman’s Seafood Pie – $6.75

The fisherman’s pie was enjoyable enough. There was a good amount of seafood without being fishy, and it was a good portion size for what you pay. Plus, it was piping hot. It wasn’t anything overly special, but still a decent dish.

Do you love Jimmy Dean breakfast sausages? Well, then we have a treat for you! For your money, you can get TWO of those amazing breakfast sausages with a bunch of onions to push to the side. Yeah, it’s par for the course for a standard EPCOT Festival dish, and we wish they didn’t bring this one back. Anyway, the sausage is well cooked

Kenyan Coffee-barbecued Beef Tenderloin with Sweet Potato and Corn Mealie Pap and Kachumbari Slaw – $6.00

The rub they season these steaks with gives it an odd tinge, but many taste testers raved about this. Like the other dishes here, it’s mildly spicy.

For $6, you can get yourself some steak tips with interesting sides, and that’s worth exploring.

Piri Piri Skewered Shrimp with Citrus-scented Couscous – $6.75

Another spicy dish, but at least this one was milder in the spice department. It was a good portion size, too. We were all surprised by how much large shrimp was on the skewer. For $6.75, you have a small, yet substantial meal.

Tusker Lager (4.2% ABV) – $5.00 (6 oz) & $9.00 (12 oz)

From Kenya Breweries Limited: “Tusker Lager is brewed from 100% African ingredients that are all locally sourced; the barley is from the Savannah and the Maasai Mara, the spring water is from the Aberdare

REVIEW: New Passion Fruit-Coconut and Apple Crumble Donuts Miss the Mark at EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival

August 25, 2021 by admin

Two new chef’s choice donuts have arrived at The Donut Box at the 2021 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival.

The chef’s donut of the day rotates every month.

The two new donuts, Passion Fruit-Coconut and Apple Crumble, are pictured at the registers.

Passion Fruit-Coconut Donut – $5.00

There are mountains of wonderfully toasted coconut sitting atop the coconut icing.

donut-box-10

Like all donuts at The Donut Box, the dough itself was a bit too tough.

donut-box-b-1-2

The filling is very tart. We would compare it to a lemon, with a slight fruity sweetness paired with tartness.

donut-box-12

Altogether, a bite of this donut is nice! The subtle coconut balances the tartness of the passionfruit.

We would get it again, if not for the toughness of the donut.

Apple Crumble Donut – $5.00

The streusel atop the donut is not very fresh.

The toughness once again takes away from full enjoyment.

The cinnamon icing does pair well with the canned apple topping, which would have been better had it been freshly prepared.

We won’t be getting this donut again.

Warm Indian Bread with Pickled Garlic, Mango Salsa and Coriander Pesto Dips (V) – $5.00

This is basically a beginner version of the Bread Service from Sanaa. Sure, the dips are really good, and the bread tastes freshly made, but nothing compares to the gigantic portion—replete with nine dips—from Sanaa. I suppose,
