Deliverect announces the first annual “International Food Delivery Day” to celebrate the hospitality industry

September 13, 2021 by admin

This new holiday recognises those who have made food delivery possible — before, during and after COVID-19

GHENT, Belgium, Sept. 2, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — On the 8 September, Deliverect, a scale-up that connects UberEats, Deliveroo, Just Eat, Takeaway.com, and more delivery companies directly to restaurants by POS system, is celebrating the first annual International Food Delivery Day (IFDD) in collaboration with its customers. This new holiday honours the restaurateurs, staff, chefs and delivery drivers, along with Deliverect’s extended ecosystem of partners, who make food delivery possible.

Whether a restaurant worker, driver, owner, vendor or customer — this day shines light on everyone who continues to support the restaurant industry, especially through the COVID-19 pandemic. To celebrate, Deliverect will be hosting events in major cities around the world, featuring giveaways, special menu items, music and more.

When relying so heavily on an online service, it is easy to forget those behind the scenes who make it all possible. Deliverect is marking this day by recognising everyone who works hard to make sure individuals all over the world can enjoy a delicious meal, anywhere, any time.

During the pandemic, food delivery saw a 79% increase in online orders in the first quarter of 2021, nearly doubling its forecasted growth rate globally. This is a stat Deliverect saw come to life when the company helped to process an average of more than 1 million orders per week in the last year, a 750% increase from the year before.

Report shares highlights of World Food Safety Day

September 10, 2021 by admin

More than 300 events were held in 90 countries promoting the third World Food Safety Day, according to a new report.

International organizations, governments, businesses, non-governmental organizations, academics and individuals organized the mainly virtual meetings to mark the day promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The theme of the annual day on June 7 was “Safe food now for a healthy tomorrow.” The COVID-19 pandemic meant, for a second time, that many observances were online. The idea for such a day was raised at a session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission in 2016 and adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2018.

Overall, there were 4,050 World Food Safety Day tweets, 6,403 retweets, 3,114 likes and 681 replies from 4,194 Twitter accounts in 2021. According to Facebook, 24,000 people posted about the day.

Pre-and post WFSD action
A campaign was launched in February with a live broadcast on YouTube, Twitter and LinkedIn, featuring stories from around the world. A guide to World Food Safety Day was published a month later in six languages.

The International Food Safety Authorities Network (INFOSAN) hosted three webinars at the end of April. These 30-minute sessions – presented in English, French and Spanish – attracted more than 100 members and recordings received more than 150 views.

The Directors-General and chief scientists of FAO and WHO celebrated the day  with topics covered including the role of science and importance of technology.

CHICAGO (NewsNation Now) — Just about every major holiday has one thing in common: Chain restaurants offering freebies and deals to get you into the drive-through or at the counter at some point during the holiday period. Labor Day is one of the biggest, and we’ve put together a handy run-down of what to get and where to find it.

Note: Some deals may not be available at every location of the restaurants mentioned thanks to franchising. Supply chain difficulties may also make certain items hard to find.

How does monoclonal antibody treatment work? A doctor explains

There are definitely fewer specials this year than in previous years, likely due to labor and supply shortages linked to the pandemic.

Carl’s Jr./Hardee’s: Get subscribed to the email list for these places by Sept. 4 and enjoy a BOGO deal on popular burgers on Labor Day. Get the Sourdough Star at Carl’s Jr. and 1/3-pound Angus Burger at Hardee’s.

International Youth Day: Building capacity of change agents in transforming food systems

August 14, 2021 by admin

BY LUCKY IHANZA

International Youth Day is commemorated every year on August 12 to raise awareness about the challenges and problems faced by the youth, and to endorse ways of engaging the youth to more actively participate in affirmative contributions to development. This year, the theme is, “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health,” and the aim is to highlight the indisputable fact that the success of such a global effort is not achievable without the significant contributions of the youth.

As world’s population (currently at 7.7 billion people) has been estimated to increase by 2 billion people in 2050; as young people have continued to play a key role in the management of, and recovery from, the pandemic; as the world suffers other crucial challenges like biodiversity conservation and mitigation of climate change; and with over half of the world’s population under age 30; experts and stakeholders are of the opinion that to ensure ‘human and planetary wellbeing’, there is an urgent need to move away from simply producing a larger volume of healthier food more sustainably, to exploring other options of transforming foods systems for the benefit of humans and the planet.

According to the World Economic Forum, a third of all food produced and the natural resources involved in its production are wasted. “We produce enough food but nearly 1 in 10 people still don’t have sufficient to eat and 3 billion cannot afford a healthy diet. At the same time, we

As food prices soar, big agriculture is having a field day

August 10, 2021 by admin

Jul 29th 2021

TROUBLE IS BREWING in America. The reopening economy’s hunger for goods from China, and for the containers that carry them, has left importers of coffee, of which the average American guzzles two cups a day, struggling to ship the stuff from Brazil. They are using whatever they can get, says Janine Mansour of Port of New Orleans, where much of America’s raw coffee lands. That includes much bigger boxes, which reach the maximum allowed weight before they are full. Importing part-empty containers adds extra costs, Ms Mansour says, and these will ultimately be swallowed by consumers.

It isn’t just coffee prices in America that are rising. Transport logjams and paltry harvests in producing regions have conspired with surging demand to stoke food inflation across the smorgasbord. The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) expects the value of global food imports to reach nearly $1.9trn this year, up from $1.6trn in 2019 (see chart). In May its index of main soft commodities hit its highest value since 2011, after rising for 12 straight months. Another benchmark index, by S&P Global, a research firm, has risen by over 50% since July 2020. On July 22nd the boss of Unilever, the Anglo-Dutch maker of everything from Ben & Jerry’s ice cream to Hellmann’s mayonnaise, said that pricier raw materials have caused his firm’s
