Here’s the official ‘Ted Lasso’ biscuit recipe

September 17, 2021 by admin

There’s a new recipe trending on TikTok — and it’s not chaffles or twisted bacon.

Fans of the hit Apple TV show “Ted Lasso” are making the series’ iconic biscuits in their own kitchens, and the result is a buttery delight.

In the show, Ted Lasso, a small-time college football coach from the Midwest hired to coach a pro soccer team in England despite knowing nothing about soccer, tries to win over the team’s owner, Rebecca Welton, by making his famous biscuit recipe.

What are biscuits in the U.K. are actually cookies in the U.S., and Ted’s shortbread cookies become a recurring theme in the series, which recently became the most Emmy-nominated freshman series ever with more than 20 nominations.

Jason Sudeikis, who plays Ted Lasso in the series, recently appeared on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna alongside fellow stars Brendan Hunt, Jeremy Swift, Hannah Waddingham and Brett Goldstein to talk about season two of the show.

“We heard the real cookies are not that appetizing?” Jenna asked the cast.

Hannah Waddington, who plays team owner Rebecca in the show, admitted she wasn’t always a fan.

“I will be kind and say they are significantly better this season,” she said.

But the TikTok community seems to disagree with Waddington’s dislike of the biscuits.

“My wife wanted me to make her the ‘Ted Lasso’ biscuits, so I did,” shares one user, who simply says, “Mmm,” after tasting them.

“Bonus points if you put them in a pink box and enjoy,” says

Letters: Community colleges | Realistic recall

September 17, 2021 by admin

Community colleges
have ally in Newsom

I am a community college student that has adapted online learning since March 2020. I strongly oppose this recall election because Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed the most recent budget that benefits California community college students by allotting $100 million for student housing and food insecurity. Newsom has supported and enacted policies that benefit the most vulnerable groups in California, including low-income students like myself.

This recall is a blatant attack on the civil rights, liberties, and policies that are supported by the vast majority of Californians. My future and the futures of other young people in the state are dependent on preventing California from going backward. To protect the future we’re working toward, please vote no in this recall.

Miriam Rodriguez
Santa Clara

Realism would lead
to no vote on recall

No matter what your opinion is of Gov. Gavin Newsom, please stop and think carefully before you vote yes on the recall.

Our state is obviously in serious trouble brought on by forces of nature — not politics: wildfires, drought, water scarcity, the delta variant. One can’t seriously think that a far-right libertarian talk show host, the likely winner if there is a recall, would have the experience, skill and enough concern for his fellow Californians to work cooperatively with Democrats to find solutions to our problems.

Please be realistic.

Trending / SNAP: Single largest and permanent benefit increase in food stamp history | News

September 16, 2021 by admin

This fall, individuals and families in Columbia County, across Oregon and the nation who depend on food stamp assistance will see what the Biden Administration calls a significant and permanent increase in benefits.

It is reportedly the largest single increase in the food stamp system’s history, which now operates as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Largest Permanent Increase

This change will increase SNAP benefits distributed in Oregon by $337 million. For SNAP households this change on average will be about $36 more in money to buy food per person.

Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) Press Secretary Jake Sunderland said Biden Administration made the announcement Monday, Aug. 16, and his department is still analyzing the changes and what they will mean to SNAP in Oregon.

“According to federal government, this change will increase SNAP benefits distributed in Oregon by $337 million,” Sunderland said. “For SNAP households this change on average will be about $36 more in money to buy food per person – or about $1.20 per day.”

The change in benefits takes effect Oct. 1.

Currently, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most SNAP households are temporarily receiving the maximum benefit amount for their household size, according to Sunderland.

“These are called emergency allotments and we have been providing these emergency allotments since March 2020,” he said.

SNAP benefit amounts vary depending on household size, income and other factors. SNAP benefits range from $0 a month (while receiving other services like employment and training services) to the maximum benefit amount for
